The film, also known as Ittefaq, has earned Rs. 89,080,268 (US$1,842,913) at the box office. Filmed entirely in Mumbai and surrounding areas, the film is a remake of the 2005 Tamil film Ingeyum Oru Kaathal Kadha which was remade into Telugu as Velugu Naake Vachamayathu (2008) and Malayalam as Kumbalangi Nights (2009). The film is based on the love story of Sunny (Amitabh Bachchan) and Raashi (Tabu) from the Hindi film Ittefaq. The film is a romantic action entertainer starring Amitabh Bachchan and Tabu in the lead roles. The film was released on 4 October 2007. Amitabh Bachchan made his debut in Bollywood with this film. Sunny, a tailor in a village in Rajasthan, falls in love with Raashi, a mad girl, played by Tabu. Sunny, who has two young daughters, raises them together with Raashi, but it becomes impossible to stay together as a family. Amitabh Bachchan and Tabu started shooting for the film in India in January 2006. Their international shooting began in Thailand in September 2006 and ended in Mumbai in December 2006. After that the film was supposed to release in May 2007. But due to heavy rains the shooting was suspended in October 2006. Production resumed in November 2006 and the movie was completed in January 2007. However, the release was delayed. Due to the controversy surrounding the movie, the production house and the director was sued by the cast of Ittefaq. Producer Balaji Raja and director R. Balki were sued by the lead cast of the film, Amitabh Bachchan, Tabu and producer M. L. Sharma, who claimed to own the rights to the characters Sunny and Raashi. In March 2007, on the orders of the Bombay High Court, production of the movie was halted. By August 2007, the film was said to be on hold for 3–4 months, when producers would have to shell out the release fee. It was to be released in October 2007 and the film's music and cinematography are also said to have been completed.
